Trustee (Civil Service and Government)

Seyar completed his studies (BA Hons Business Economics, MSc International Business) at the University of Hertfordshire. He then began working in the public sector and has been a civil servant since. Seyar has over 15 years’ experience working for HMG (His Majesty’s Government) across different departments. These included working as a strategic communications lead at the Cabinet Office; policy lead at HM Treasury shaping critical national infrastructure policy; international engagement lead for the Middle East and North Africa at the Ministry of Justice; deputy team lead at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office delivering the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) Multilateral programme working directly with the UN, NATO and OSCE; and currently as an economic and investment security adviser at the Ministry of Defence. Alongside his civil service career, Seyar has worked as a volunteer supporting refugees from Afghanistan to settle into the UK by delivering community events/workshops, sports coaching, immigration advice and interpreting services. Seyar joined AfSU as a Trustee in June 2024 after attending an AfSU event as a guest speaker and having been thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and reach of the Union. He is also a massive sports fan and loves all things football - watching, talking and playing it.
